What counts as a mansion rental
Mansion rentals in Scottsdale is a loose term. Listings use it for anything from a large five-bedroom house to an estate with a guest casita and room for thirty. For a group, the label matters less than three numbers: real bedrooms, full bathrooms and how many people the house is permitted to sleep.
In practice, the big houses fall into two tiers. Six to eight bedrooms suits a group of twelve to sixteen: two or three families, a milestone birthday, a golf trip with partners. Ten bedrooms and up suits twenty or more: a full family reunion or a large group of friends. We run one house in each tier.
Wild West Estate: seven bedrooms near Old Town
Wild West Estate has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms and sleeps sixteen. It was rebuilt, with an industrial-meets-Southwest interior, and it sits less than a mile from the edge of Old Town Scottsdale.
The backyard is where it earns its place. The pool has a swim-up bar and a baja shelf for lounging in shallow water, and there is a spa, a putting green and a bocce court. The bedroom plan includes a primary suite, two more en-suite rooms and two casita-style rooms that suit kids or friends who keep later hours.
- Seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, sleeps sixteen
- Rebuilt, close to Old Town restaurants and nightlife
- Pool with swim-up bar and baja shelf, plus a spa
- Putting green and bocce court
Valley Vista Estate: eleven bedrooms in Paradise Valley
Valley Vista Estate is the bigger house: eleven bedrooms, eight full and two half baths, sleeping up to thirty. It is Spanish Colonial in style, behind a private gate in a quiet Paradise Valley neighborhood.
It is built for a group that spans generations. Two primary suites have private balconies. A detached guest casita has its own kitchen and entrance. A bunk room and a game room keep the younger guests busy. Outside, a heated pool with a swim-up bar and in-pool grill station, a sunken outdoor kitchen, a fireplace and two fire pits give the group several places to gather.
Choosing between them
The decision usually comes down to group size and what the evenings look like. If you are sixteen or fewer and want to be in town for dinner most nights, Wild West Estate is the stronger choice; Old Town is a short ride or a walk away. If you are more than sixteen, or the trip is about time together at the house with children and grandparents, Valley Vista is the one.
Some groups ask about booking both. Because the houses are in different parts of the valley, about fifteen to twenty minutes apart, it works best when two halves of a group want different things, rather than as one shared base.
How to read a big-house listing
Large rentals vary more than small ones, and the listing does not always tell you what you need. A few things to check before you book any big house in Scottsdale:
- Bedrooms with doors, not lofts or dens counted as bedrooms
- Full baths versus half baths, and which rooms share
- Permitted occupancy under the town's short-term rental rules
- Bed types: kings and queens versus bunks and sofa beds
- House rules on noise, visitors and events
- Who answers the phone late at night, and how close they are
Timing a big-house booking
Big houses are scarce, and they book on a different clock from small ones. Groups plan further ahead, so the best dates at both estates go months in advance, especially for the holidays and the January to March run of Barrett-Jackson, the Phoenix Open and spring training. Those weeks also carry longer minimum stays.
If your dates are flexible, fall and late spring give you good weather and more choice. Summer is hot, but early mornings and evenings by the pool are pleasant, and it is the easiest season to find a large house for a family reunion. Stays of thirty nights or more are welcome at either estate at discounted rates, priced on request.
The rules that come with a big house
Large houses attract the assumption that they are for parties. Ours are not. Both estates are guest accommodation only: no parties, no events and no visitors beyond registered guests. Outdoor noise ends at 10 pm, and at Valley Vista it is kept low at all hours under Paradise Valley's strict rules. Groups that plan their celebrations at a restaurant or venue, and use the house for everything else, have the best stays.
Pets may be considered at both estates with prior approval and a pet fee. Minimum stays vary by season and lengthen during January to March event weeks. Check dates on either house page, or call us at (480) 781-0717 and we will help you decide which house fits.
