Phoenix Villas: Where Our Houses Sit and How Far Everything Is

Search for Phoenix villas and you are really searching the whole metro. Our houses are in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. Here is what that means for drive times, and why most visitors prefer it.

Phoenix villas, honestly located

Phoenix villas is how many people search for a private house in the area, and it is a reasonable search: Phoenix is the name on the airport and the map. But the Phoenix metro is huge, more than a dozen cities joined together, and where in it you stay shapes the whole trip.

Our houses are not in the city of Phoenix itself. They are in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, on the northeast side of the metro. That is where most visitors on vacation end up anyway, because it is where the resorts, golf courses, desert trails, galleries and restaurants are concentrated. We would rather tell you that up front than have you discover it on the drive from the airport.

Drive times from our houses

These are typical times outside rush hour. Traffic around big events adds to them.

  • Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport: about 20 minutes from Wild West Estate and Valley Vista, about 40 from Troon Ranch
  • Downtown Phoenix, Chase Field and the arena: about 20 to 25 minutes from Wild West Estate and Valley Vista
  • Old Town Scottsdale: a few minutes from Wild West Estate, about 15 to 20 from Valley Vista
  • Desert Botanical Garden and Papago Park: about 15 minutes from Wild West Estate
  • TPC Scottsdale: about 25 minutes from Wild West Estate, about 20 from Troon Ranch

What a villa gives you that a hotel does not

A villa is a private house rented as a whole: your own bedrooms, kitchen, living space and outdoor area, with no shared lobby or pool. In the desert, the outdoor area matters as much as the indoor one. Most of the year, the patio and pool are where you spend the day.

For a family or a group, the economics often favor a house too. One house can replace several hotel rooms, and the kitchen saves the cost and effort of every meal out. For longer trips, the laundry alone is worth it.

Our three houses

Wild West Estate is the most central for a Phoenix visit: seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, sleeps sixteen, rebuilt, with a pool and swim-up bar, putting green and bocce, close to Old Town and an easy drive to the airport and downtown.

Valley Vista Estate in Paradise Valley sits between Scottsdale and Phoenix: eleven bedrooms, eight full and two half baths, sleeps up to thirty, Spanish Colonial, behind a private gate.

Troon Ranch Casitas is our North Scottsdale option: three casitas on a working horse ranch beneath Troon Mountain, from a one-bedroom cabin for two to the whole ranch for eight. It is farther from Phoenix proper and closer to the desert, which is the point.

Phoenix sights worth the drive

Staying in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley does not mean missing Phoenix. Several of the metro's best sights are an easy drive from our houses, and a few are closer than many hotels downtown.

  • Desert Botanical Garden in Papago Park, best early or at sunset
  • Hole-in-the-Rock and the easy Papago Park trails
  • The Heard Museum for Native American art and culture
  • The Musical Instrument Museum in north Phoenix
  • South Mountain for long views over the whole valley
  • Suns, Diamondbacks and Mercury games downtown

When staying in Phoenix proper makes sense

If your trip centers on downtown Phoenix, a convention, a run of games at Chase Field or a stadium event in Glendale, a hotel downtown or on the west side may save you driving. For most leisure trips, though, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley put more of what visitors come for within fifteen minutes, and downtown is still an easy evening drive.

For a stadium event in Glendale, allow about forty-five minutes or more from our houses, and longer on event days.

The seasons across the valley

The Phoenix area has two travel seasons. From fall through spring the weather is mild and the calendar is full, peaking from January to March with the big Scottsdale events. Summer is hot everywhere in the valley, and the trips that work then are pool-centered, with outdoor plans at first light.

Whichever season you choose, a private house with its own pool and shade makes the climate easier to live with than a hotel room. It is one more reason most visitors to Phoenix end up on the Scottsdale side.

Booking and house rules

Choose dates with Check availability on any house page, or call us at (480) 781-0717. Minimum stays vary by season, and the January to March event weeks carry longer minimums. Stays of thirty nights or more are welcome at discounted rates, priced on request.

Our houses are guest accommodation only. Parties, events and visitors beyond registered guests are not permitted, and outdoor noise ends at 10 pm. Pets may be considered at some houses with prior approval and a pet fee; Troon Ranch Casitas does not take pets.

Questions we get asked

Are your villas in Phoenix?

Our houses are in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, part of the Phoenix metro, about twenty to thirty minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor for most stays.

How far are your houses from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport?

About twenty minutes from Wild West Estate and Valley Vista, and about forty minutes from Troon Ranch Casitas in North Scottsdale.

Can I get to downtown Phoenix easily?

Yes. Downtown Phoenix is about twenty to twenty-five minutes from Wild West Estate and Valley Vista outside rush hour.

What is the difference between a villa and a vacation rental?

Little, in practice. Both mean a private house rented as a whole. We use villa for a house with its own pool and outdoor living space.

Which house is best for a Phoenix trip?

Wild West Estate is the most central, close to Old Town Scottsdale with easy drives to the airport and downtown Phoenix.

Do you offer weekly or monthly stays?

Yes. Weekly stays book through Check availability, and stays of thirty nights or more are welcome at discounted rates, priced on request.
